Reference PhotosToday was spent taking reference photos for my concentration and editing my images. I started with Abby Williard, portraying the emotion of joy. We spent a few minutes talking about funny stories to make us laugh and get a genuine expression of joy. During our story time I snapped a few "candid" pictures.

I am going to be needing various sizes of the same toned paper. I want to make the substrate uniform for all of my pieces to create cohesiveness. I will also be in need of white charcoal sticks for my larger areas of highlights. Execution & Getting StartedTo get started, I will first need to take all of my reference images and do some minor research on facial expressions and human emotion. After this, I will start my first two pieces by sketching the basic outline of the faces, then I will begin to develop my shadows building from light charcoal to dark charcoal, then I will go in the opposite direction and do my highlights with white charcoal and an eraser.
To create my final piece took a lot of risk and developed my skills as an artist. This is an extremely exposing piece that leaves me very exposed, as it tells one of my stories. I was also able to work with a medium I enjoy and I practiced my skills in realism with charcoal.
