Concentration Statement
As an artist, I am highly fascinated with the human figure and portraiture. I am drawn, as an empathetic person, to other people, and I crave deep and meaningful connections to them. Choosing to make eight different portraits for my concentration was therefore an easy choice. Working with a charcoal medium on off-white paper, I have drawn eight people all representing a different emotion. Before anything, research was done on the human face and emotion. Then reference photos were taken to begin my artistic process.
I am thoroughly pleased with the outcome of my work and am eager to communicate a variety of emotions to my viewers. Working with people is something I intend to do in the future as connection is essential to me. A career in art therapy will allow me to continue the work done in my concentration, and I will go on to someday help others communicate through their work the way I have. My overall mission is simply to make the world a better, happier place by utilizing art as a platform for expression and emotional externalization, and someday teaching others to do the same.
